National Shortage of Dioralyte

Some of the ingredients!

For those who suffer from dehydration, relying on hydration sachets is super important. Sadly, there is a national shortage of Dioralyte and a lot of people are struggling to get any at all. I’m going to share the St.Marks Solution which originates from the top bowel hospital in the UK called St.Marks, which is in London.

My dietician gave me this recipe to help with hydration which many can follow and, you can also find it in IBD Superheros Facebook group too. I will also tell you where you can get the ingredients, as some are a little tricky to get, depending on where you live.

St.Marks Solution:

  • Bicarbonate of Soda 2.5ml or 2 1/2 grams- you can find this in most supermarkets and little shops
  • Glucose Powder 6 Tea Spoons or 20 grams – you can get this on amazon or a chemist
  • Table Salt 3 1/2 grams or 5ml
  • 1 litre of Tap water
  • 1 jug
  • Fruit juice or diluting juice for flavour

Keep this cool in your jug, in the fridge, adding NO ice. Hopefully this is just a little blip and Dioralyte will be back on the shelves again! Some of you may be able to drink sports drinks but to be mindful that if you suffer from hydration like me, it just goes through you and to be mindful that it doesn’t quite have enough of what you need.

Hope this helps!

  1. Oooo this is fab, thank you! I might have to give this a go because even though you posted this in the summer, it’s now October and I’ve not been able to get any for ages. Still can’t now so I had a look online to see if there’s a shortage and found your post. I can’t even get Superdrug’s own brand rehydration sachets. There are things like O.R.S tablets but when I’ve tried to compare the ingredients on key things like sodium and potassium, it’s hard to see what they contain but it seems like they’re a good bit weaker than Dioralyte. Grr. I’ll see if I can find some of that glucose powder you mention here. Thanks! 🙂

    1. You’re so very welcome! oh my gosh, really! I do believe amazon has but if you still cant get, pop me a message on Instagram and if i find any, i’ll get some for you and send it to you if in the UK. Yeah, I agree and I also wasn’t a fan of the taste or fizziness of the O.R.S! xx
